Have you ever felt you need a translator for your kids? When our children are working through difficult emotions or experiences, they don’t always have the understanding or language to express them clearly. Their inner processing can be hidden from us and sometimes when they do share, it’s easy to misunderstand what they are trying to convey.
However, their hearts and minds are discoverable to the Holy Spirit. He cares for them deeply. Just as the Holy Spirit knows the heart of your child, He searches God’s will for them too. He can also reveal to us unique prophetic insight into their life so that we know what to pray for. It might be a word of knowledge, a vivid dream, or metaphorical images that show us areas we need to be paying attention to.
Prophetic prayer is confidently partnering with God in the dismantling of lies and the impartation of truth that comes through His intimate, powerful work in the hearts and minds of our children. We may never know what occurred for them in those prophetic prayerful moments -- what thought God renewed, what emotion God healed, or what perspective God showed them -- but you might be surprised to see a positive shift or change in them none-the-less. And if God has anything to do with it, it makes for happier parents too!
Pray from the Scriptures
Father,
Thank you that you care for each of our children intimately. You know the desires of their hearts and each of their thoughts. Enable us to understand one another so we can encourage and spur one another on in love, just as you do for each of us. Please give me prophetic discernment to know what to pray for and to help them make sense of the experiences they are having. Holy Spirit, will you open up their hearts to seek you and cry out to you for help when they feel trapped or confused. Give them supernatural dreams and encounters that demonstrate you are with them. Let them discover your endless grace and wisdom. Let them be amazed at the answers you give them and place all their confidence in you.
